dont look at the class. act like nobodys there
To be honest, everybody feels this way! It is completely normal. I used to get so nervous about speaking in front of class that I would start to feel ill when I was a in high school but now that I have done it for so many years in college, you get over it.
My best advice to you would be to act like you just don’t care. I know it sounds crazy but act like you have the whole speech in the bag. Know what you’re talking about beforehand, even videtape yourself speaking so you can see what you’re doing wrong. Speak loudly, clearly and slowly. That is a huge thing, when people get nervous they speak too fast. Don’t be afraid to take a big breath before you start when you get up there. Just act like you’ve been doing it your whole life and you will do perfect.
At our school, speech was a required class in order to graduate. And when I took that. Since we had to give so many 5 minute speeches in front of the class. It just went away after a while.
And I used to be so scared that I started out talking in English but then shifted into Norwegian. That was majorly embarrassing. But after that happened. I was fine.
I don’t know how to get over it in a short amount of time, but most people just kind of grow out of it I guess.
Just read what you have to read a few times to the people you live with to become kind of comfortable reading out loud.
Realize you may help someone by the information you share… the reason you are nervous or afraid is because you think you might be rejected, laughed at…
It’s just one of those things that gets easier with practice.
If you feel yourself getting nervous, just imagine all of those people in front of you sitting on the toilet with their knickers around their ankles, trying to do a great big poo after a week of being constipated. That should sort your nerves.
